OVERVIEW
Steph focuses her litigation practice on the defense of healthcare providers and institutions, from nursing personnel and physicians to hospitals, skilled nursing, and long-term care facilities, and correctional care. For more than two decades, Steph has guided institutional clients and individuals in the healthcare fields, helping them navigate all phases of litigation in state and federal courts, as well as state regulatory boards. Steph sums up her litigation experience with the phrase, "you name it, I've seen it," to encompass the wide spectrum of topics and issues that she has worked on analyzing with clients.
Steph has defended cases that allege improper obstetrical and gynecological care, emergency medicine and cardiac issues, and allegations of misdiagnosis in fields such as oncology, neurology and infectious disease. In addition to professional liability cases, Steph defended international pharmaceutical manufacturers in matters involving adverse reactions to anti-convulsive medication and wrongful death claims based on changes in medication efficacy following manufacturing changes. More recently, she has undertaken matters involving the defense of healthcare personnel in Colorado's correctional settings, tackling the unique challenges that institutional care encompasses, such as substance abuse issues and repeat incarceration.
She has participated in trials across the country, successfully defending clients in cases alleging wrongful death due to suicide, elderly neglect, failure to diagnose endocarditis and neurosurgical injuries. She prides herself on a detail-oriented knowledge of each case while never losing sight of an overall case management strategy.
